Survey Results: 25-26 Bus Tracking System for Parents

Following a full year of using the PAJ GPS system to allow parents to track their children’s bus lines in real-time, we ran a survey to gather your thoughts.

Of the 1457 families using the Transport service in 2025-2026, 276 answered our survey (approx. 19% response), with all language sections represented within the survey.

Of the respondents, approximately 70% use or have used the tracking system during the 25-26 school year.

The full survey results are available for reference at the end of this article. Comments and open-ended answers have been removed as some contained personal information.

What Parents Using PAJ GPS Thought

Questions 1-5, 6-24

Setting up and using the app was not necessarily intuitive: more than 20% of users reported finding the app confusing or too complex.

However, our in-house support from the Transport Office was rated very positively.

The app’s reliability was overall positive, with more than 70% of parents considering themselves satisfied with their use for it.

Additionally, almost 90% of parents using the app would recommend it to other parents.

What Could be Improved

When questioned, almost 90% of parents requested the implementation of notifications, especially for delays and ETA or location updates.

Confirmation of child presence on the bus was also requested, with just under 50% of users mentioning this option.

Another point raised by users was the loss of tracking in the case of replacement drivers.

Overall, priority was determined by respondents to be first for tracking accuracy, followed by notifications, then child presence on the bus.

Why Some Parents Did Not Use the Tracking System

Questions 1-5, 25-28

About 45% of parents who do not use the PAJ GPS tracking system were not aware of its existence.

Other reasons stated was concern for privacy/data management, as well as no need for tracking in some cases.

Future Steps

Following this survey, the Transport WG has established an action plan to further improve the tracking system for parents.

These steps include:

  • Establish a formal data protection note
  • Implement a clearer and more operable protocol for replacement drivers and other tracking gaps identified
  • Update the user guide available on the APEEE website based on questions received throughout the year and in the survey
  • Study the feasibility of an APEEE-owned app in order to simplify the interface and allow for customisable notifications
